Our boarding rates include daycare. There are additional options for one-on-one time with dogs that do not play well with others.

WHY DOES MY DOG HAVE TO COMPLETE A TEMPERMENT TEST?

Every dog that attends Hounds Inn Lounge must complete a 3-4 hour evaluation where we check to see if our cage-free boarding/daycare is a good match for them. Your dog will be kept on leash for part of the assessment. When we feel your dog is ready, he or she will engage in off-leash play with our base dogs while we monitor their energy and behavior. Not all dogs are destined to love Daycare, and that’s totally normal- just how some people are social butterflies, and some introverts, we will do our best to cater to all types of personalities and keep you informed of how your dog does.

“I’M NERVOUS ABOUT BOARDING MY DOG. HOW DO I KNOW MY DOG WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF?

CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE SPECIAL NEEDS DOGS?

We are happy to accommodate dogs with special needs, including medication administration, skin care treatments, and specific dietary instructions. Please be sure to discuss your dog’s needs with our Reservation Specialist when booking your dog’s stay.

SHOULD I FEED MY DOG BEFORE COMING TO DOGGIE DAYCARE?

We prefer that you feed your dog before and after daycare times. If your dog typically eats at a time that is before our daycare starts then we recommend that you feed them at least 60 minutes before arrival. The reason for the time recommendation is due to their digestion and energy level. Bloat is a very serious condition that dogs can get and the majority of dogs that get bloat have either eaten or have been drinking a significant amount less than 60 minutes prior to play time.

MY DOG IS ELDERLY. WILL HE/SHE ENJOY THIS ENVIRONMENT?

It depends on the temperament of your dog. There are many older dogs that are active and can fit in anywhere. Typically, elderly dogs enjoy their nap time and our trained daycare and kennel staff will accommodate them accordingly. Some senior pups do well in doggie daycare, where others just don’t have the energy for it. We also offer extra playtime, cuddle time, nature walks to match your dog’s personal taste.

WHY IS MY DOG THIRSTY WHEN HE/SHE COMES HOME?

We provide each pet with access to water 24 hours per day. Some dogs will forget to drink water while at daycare, despite fresh water being available in multiple locations. Daycare can be distracting with all the fun and excitement going on. Don’t be surprised if your dog comes home and wants to drink a bowl of water and go straight to bed.

*From the time your dog enters our facility, your dog will have continued access to fresh drinking water. Hydrating dogs is one of our top priorities and water is always available. Daycare dogs that play hard or for long periods of time drink more water and may want to drink even more when they get home.

DO I NEED A RESERVATION?

Yes, reservations are required. A reservation made in advance will secure your spot in boarding, daycare, and bathing services. You will receive a confirmation email when reserving your pet’s stay or activities. Our online portal and mobile is available for all clients to request reservations. WHY IS MY DOG SO TIRED?

After a day of daycare or boarding, your dog will be very tired and may want to sleep for a day or two to recoup. Their paws may become sore if they are not used to being active for hours on end. The best thing you can do is let your dog rest!

WHAT IS CANINE COUGH, WHAT YOU DO DO ABOUT IT, AND CAN MY DOG GET IT?

A: Canine infectious tracheobronchitis (canine cough) is one of the most prevalent infectious diseases in dogs. Fortunately, the majority of cases are not serious, and resolve on their own in one to two weeks. The main cause of canine cough is the airborne bacteria, bordetella bronchiseptica. A dog with canine cough will develop a coarse, dry, hacking cough about five to ten days after being infected. It sounds as if the dog needs to “clear his throat” and the cough will be triggered by any extra activity, drinking water, or being exposed to a change of temperature or level of exercise. Many dogs that acquire canine cough will cough every few minutes, all day long. They will wretch and sometimes vomit a white foamy looking matter. Their general state of health and alertness are usually not affected, they usually have no rise in temperature, and do not lose their appetite.

Even in the most hygienic, well ventilated, spacious dog facilities, the possibility of a dog acquiring canine cough exists. Canine cough can be acquired from your neighbor’s dog, from a champion show dog at a dog show, from the animal hospital where your dog just came in for treatment for a cut paw, from the sidewalk where an infected dog walked earlier…so try not to blame anyone or any place if your dog developed canine cough. There may have been an infected dog, unknown to anyone, that acted as a source for other dogs. The signs of canine cough usually will last from seven to 21 days and can be very annoying for the dog and the dog’s owners. If you suspect your dog has canine cough, isolate your dog and visit your veterinarian for medical advice. First and foremost, isolate your dog, Do not take your dog to public places in order to prevent the spread of infection. If your dog has recently been to dog school, daycare, or any other place where your dog was exposed to other dogs, notify the correct individuals that your dog is coughing.

You don’t need to isolate your dog to prevent infection. The best recommendation is to discuss with your veterinarian what combination of vaccines and boosters they recommend. Many dogs that contract canine cough will display one minor signs of coughing that may last seven to ten days and will not require any medication at all. Treatment is generally limited to symptomatic relief of the coughing with non-prescription, and occasionally prescription, cough suppressants. If the dog is running a fever or there seems to be a persistent and severe cough, antibiotics are occasionally utilized to assist the dog in recovering from canine cough. It can happen that secondary bacterial invaders will complicate a case of canine cough and prolong the recovery and severely affect the upper airway. Therefore the use of antibiotics is determined on an individual basis. Follow the advice and course of treatment that your veterinarian has prescribed. Don’t allow your dog to exercise, as this will trigger the cough.
